A.D. After Disclosure

False Assertions from The White House about ET

Sixty-four years after flying disks became a worldwide phenomenon, a formal position on this phenomenon has been issued in print by the executive branch of the United States government for the first time.   On Friday, November 4 the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) responded to two petitions submitted to the We the People section of the White House website.  One of these, the Disclosure Petition, was submitted by Paradigm Research Group.   The White House response gave the administration's assessment of the assertion by a growing number of researchers and activists that flying disks and other related phenomena confirm an extraterrestrial, non-human intelligence engaging the human race.

OSTP researcher Phil Larson wrote, "The fact is we have no credible evidence of extraterrestrial presence here on Earth."  Unfortunately for the OSTP and the Obama administration, that assertion is false.  Furthermore, given that approximately 50% of the American people are now convinced of an extraterrestrial presence and more than 80% believe the government is not telling the truth about the phenomenon, it is an embarrassment.

There are only four possible explanations for this statement from the OSTP:

Edgar Mitchell is the sixth man to walk on the moon, as the lunar module pilot of Apollo 14. This makes him a brave man, too, given that the previous mission (Apollo 13) nearly cost the entire crew their lives. In February 1971, Mitchell landed on the Moon and spent a full nine hours working on the lunar surface in the Fra Mauro Highlands region.

Mitchell also happened to grow up in Roswell, New Mexico. After his NASA missions, he returned there. A Dozen Documents That Take UFOs Seriously

Ask people what they think about UFOs, and you’re sure to get opinions ranging through all extremes and nuances. Some are so embarrassed by the topic that they simply refuse to consider any evidence whatsoever, like the Pope refusing to look through Galileo’s telescope. Others claim not only to be certain that aliens are here, but to have exact, insider knowledge of what it’s all about. Between these extremes are endless variations.

It’s the same with how we approach the subject. Some people read UFO books for fun, like a mystery novel or scary story. Others are more interested in scientific evidence, such as analysis of photographs, videos, or material samples. Still others prefer more hypothetical roads, like theories about the likelihood of life elsewhere in the universe, or how an advanced propulsion system might work. There are a host of specialized studies, too, ranging from abductions, to crop circles, to animal mutilations, and more. Or, you may focus on the believers and witnesses themselves by studying UFOs as an element of popular culture, or from a psycho-social perspective.

Another approach is historical. There are, after all, government UFO documents that anyone can read. What do they say? Can these documents tell us whether the government or military have ever been interested in this phenomenon? If so, why?

Granted, this approach might not be of the same value as subjecting a piece of flying saucer to laboratory tests. But it would certainly be important if the government had documents showing that UFOs are truly something extraordinary, and even possibly alien. Especially after telling the public the opposite for years. Since belief in UFOs is a near-professional suicide in most respected circles, what would it mean if we discovered that, within the classified world, people have taken it seriously for years?

It just so happens that they have. They do.

For many years, it was hard to obtain declassified government documents about UFOs. During the 1950s and 1960s, a few documents wended their way to the rest of the world, but this was rare. Then, in 1974, the U.S. government amended the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). The result was a veritable golden age of document releases that lasted roughly until a 1982 Executive Order from President Reagan. While UFO documents continue to be released, a repeat of the Great Flood of the seventies appears unlikely.

Sixty Years On: The McMinnville UFO Photos

60 years ago, on May 11, something extraordinary happened just ten miles outside the otherwise ordinary town of McMinnville, Oregon. A couple of down-to-Earth farmers — Paul and Evelyn Trent — took two photos of something out-of-this-world. Those images turned out to be probably the most famous and hotly debated UFO photos ever taken, and certainly the ones that many experts have concluded have the highest likelihood of being authentic. 

The nearness of the object and the fact that it was the first to be captured so clearly on film makes the case stand out even now. At the time, the pictures surpassed in quality and credibility anything taken in the first three years of the country's growing awareness of "flying saucers" (1947-1950).

This case resonates with me because 1950 was the year my family moved to Oregon. When the photos were taken by the Trents, the Zabels lived 51 miles away on the Oregon coast in a little town called Nelscott, now part of Lincoln City. Although I hadn't been born yet, I do remember later as a kid seeing the photos for the first time and thinking how incredible it was that they'd been taken so close to our part of the world.

To commemorate this 60th anniversary, we have created the magazine cover the case deserves but will never get.

What you're looking at to the right is not a real Time magazine, of course, because "real" journalists don't cover UFOs. They don't believe in them. 

Try clicking on the image to blow it up to full-size. Then you can really appreciate what a radical act it would be for a major news magazine to put something like this on their cover. 

And yet that should not be the case. Ask yourself: Why is it that a phenomenon that is this enduring — with thousands of excellent cases, radar confirmations, Air Force chases, pilot encounters, police reports, photographs, physical traces, etc. — can't be treated as something worthy of our attention and investigation? The fact that the mainstream media has completely shirked its responsibilities over the years on this issue is appalling. It is, quite simply, the Greatest Story Never Told.
