Dr. Jeffrey Galpin specializes in Infectious Disease Medicine, Molecular Biology, and AIDS research and was the principal investigator who applied the first gene therapy for HIV/AIDS. He also contracted polio when he was an active and athletic eight-year-old, something that changed his life, and gives him pause to consider what an advanced intelligence could offer us, if they wanted to.
After his polio diagnosis, his own doctors told him he might not live to see the next day. He beat those odds, even though it meant living in an iron lung and enduring numerous surgeries. He helped other motionless children in his ward by letting his imagination soar and treating them to stories where their rocking beds turned into roller coasters and the iron lungs turned into rocket ships. Eventually, he got out of the ward and became a champion in wheelchair basketball and football. After college he became one of the first severely disabled applicants ever accepted into a Big Ten medical school, the University of Illinois.
Now he works to help others beat the odds stacked against them. Today, Dr. Galpin focuses his work upon curing diseases of stress that include those within the brain -- Alzheimers, ALS, multiple sclerosis, post traumatic stress disorder, brain injury, and autism -- and those outside the brain: diabetes, atherosclerosis, sepsis, and even SARS.
Besides seeing a full daily load of patients, Dr. Galpin is also an avid writer, including fact-based science-fiction. After reading an early draft of A.D. After Disclosure, Dr. Jeffrey Galpin offered his endorsement.
"As a physician, researcher, and creative writer, I stand on the shoulders of others to see and climb the next mountain. A.D. After Disclosure is a brilliant, enjoyable primer that holds a feast of ideas that will make any audience think and wonder. This work offers a place to stand where others may take up the challenge and travel to places none of us could conceive. Richard and Bryce have performed a great service both to our culture and that of the ‘Others.’”
